5. Faith Sotondoshe & Nande's Kitchen

Nande’s kitchen is a community-based business that is specialized in traditional cuisine. It uses use organic ingredients outsourcing from community gardens and infused with different flavors from different cultures.

Faith Sotondoshe, who founded the business a few years ago, cooks traditional food with organic ingredients from community gardens, mixed with flavours from other cultures. Faith dreamed of travelling and becoming a social worker, but after losing their job in 2015, she saw many people on the streets asking for food and decided to start a soup kitchen. When the money ran out, she began selling meals for a profit to keep it going. Today, 10% of Nande’s profit goes back to the soup kitchen, which feeds 62 children and 46 adults across three shelters in Langa.

Faith’s biggest challenge is the lack of space, and competition from other caterers. She works from a block of flats where the surroundings have become run-down, which makes cooking there difficult. Without a proper kitchen, people who taste the food at special events can’t buy it again afterwards, because there is no adequate production capacity. She’d also like to improve Nande’s branding through marketing outreach.

Faith dreams of a large kitchen that would give jobs to unemployed mothers and feed more than 1,000 people.
