In 2021, shortly after Covid, Naso bought nail care equipment and taught herself nail care from YouTube and Instagram tutorials. A brother pointed out that her work could earn her and income, and Treat Yourself was born. Naso&#8217;s mother, who is well-known in Langa, helped spread word about the business. Further marketing through Facebook brought in more clients. Four to five years on, the business is Naso&#8217;s only income. It supports a two-year-old son and helps with household costs.<\/p>\n<p>One of Naso&#8217;s biggest challenges is the lack of space, as she works from the family home in a shared space. Clients sometimes arrive at mealtimes, which is awkward. There&#8217;s no dedicated, attractive space where clients feel comfortable or where good photos can be taken for social media. Record keeping, invoicing and pricing are also hard. Prices feel too low given rising costs, but many local clients couldn&#8217;t afford more. She would like to add lashes, brows and waxing, but there&#8217;s no dedicated room at home to do that.<\/p>\n<p>Naso is two modules away from finishing a BA in Communication Science at UNISA.
