She grew up in Gugulethu in Cape Town, and moved to nearby Langa three months ago. She has always loved beauty work, doing her own nails, hair and lashes. In 2017, during her final school year, she lived through a terrible personal ordeal, which left her traumatised and unable to write her final school year exams, but even more determined to build her skills and fend for herself.<\/p>\n<p>She founded Nails by Velile eight years ago and taught herself through YouTube, practising on neighbours and friends. She accepted an offer of space at a local business in Langa, where she now works.<\/p>\n<p>Velile would welcome insights in areas such as record keeping, funding and marketing for her business. One of her goals would be to separate her personal and her business accounts. Not finishing school means she relies on what she has taught herself. She&#8217;s also wants premises of her own, rather than working from someone else&#8217;s establishment.<\/p>\n<p>She dreams of starting a beauty school that would train and employ young people from the townships, including people whose illnesses make academic study hard but who can still work with their hands.
